Native Youth & J.K The Reaper Stay Tasteful in Visual for Understatement

Earlier in the year, Native Youth blessed us with her second studio album, Second Chances which provided an array of emotion from “fuck you” to “sad girl with wine.” Understatement is still a stand out track featuring North Carolina’s J.K. The Reaper who not only adds a bit of rap to the sax-filled single, but additional vocals to accompany Native Youth filling out the song nicely. The visual evokes emotion as well. Directed by Miami-based director Alex Vazquez, the visual engulfs you into darkness as Youth and Reaper tells the story of a sultry night alone with bae with champagne and Marvin Gaye. “The video plays off the inspiration of Robert Mapplethorpe, a famous B&W photographer. We wanted to be tasteful but not cliché and this is what we created together,” says Youth in interview with Elevator.

While Youth enjoys her time in LA continuing to create and explore when can only imagine what’s next from the alternative R&B songstress.
